[hackerspaces] hosting hackerspaces.org

Paul Bohm-2
hey,

hackerspaces.org has now been running for a few years on a dedicated
server i'm paying for.

i think that's wasteful (well over 1000 euros out of my pocket for an
underused server). anyone have any hosting ideas? would prefer
something that isn't completely sketchy.

thx
enki

Depending on the usage requirements, a VM service such as a Linode might
make more sense.  Also put up a tipjar / paypal button :)

I would not recommend GoDaddy...  I use Linode.com for all of my VPSs.
Would highly recommend them!

Ewwww.... I used godaddy Virtual Dedicated servers in the past and they never kept their OS updated. Support was ugly also.  I use www.ace-host.net. Their support is great 24/7.

I've been using linode for our Makersalliance.org server.  I'm a
little disappointed in the database performance we're getting on
it(even with upgraded memory).  But, it is virtual, and it's
definitely cheaper than a dedicated box.

The Wau Holland Foundation (http://www.wauland.de/english.html) would still be more than interested to pay all of it, as it is. I believe I have told you that more than once over the last few years. Please hand in anything you have so we can have hackerspaces.org paid for through the same organization that does the fund raiser for WikiLeaks. Please Paul, give us an opportunity to pay you by giving us a bank account, bills, anything really.

Thank you.

Depending on your requirements, I could probably put it on one of my
servers. Not sure what you mean by sketchy, but this is just normal,
respectable server space that i normally rent out to customers, i'd
be happy to host hackerspaces.org for free (unless you're pulling
terabytes/month).

I do have FreeBSD exclusively on there.

Good questions, if it's low bandwith I'm sure someone on the list might
be able to host it.

Fin and i think Astera (pby others?) started a migration project a few
months ago, but the project got stuck and i thought it was abandoned.

Well, way to prove me wrong! Thanks for the quick and successful
migration guys!

Hackerspaces.org is on a new server!

We host a lot of projects/etc at Dreamhost.com. Their pricing and
service has always been good. Plus, we have some insiders who work
